Back home in California

We made it back from NM to home in one day.  Once we hit the state line in Blythe we didn't want to stop.  We got home before sundown.  It was wonderful to be home again, and our neighbors the Berrys decorated our home to welcome us.

A house looks a little different after you've been on the road for a month!  Julia said "The backyard is different now" after running out back to see the swings.  I said "I think it might be you that's different now".

Back to washing clothes, dishes, paying bills, classes and work...   It was a wonderful road trip.

The last drive
From Lily:
The last drive is going to be the longest drive of the trip. We might even be driving till’ 12:00am! But it will be worth it to be back in good, new, and cool California!! Even though I’m overjoyed to be going back to California, I’ve had an exciting and sweaty trip, paddling down freezing cold river in Yosemite, walking till’ my feet hurt in New York, taking a little1 hour walk around the neighborhood in 109 degree weather in Texas, oh, and don’t forget driving for 8-10 hours. Yes, I’ve had some great and not so great adventures like: when we went to Lady Liberty and we were walking back slowly when they announced that the last boat to Ellis Island was leaving in 2 min. We ran like that was the last boat to New York! We ran so fast that we past my mom and my aunt and the rest of the group so when we just made it past the closing gate my dad realized it was just Lucia, Julia, Me, and him that had made it passed the gate that was now closed. We had left half of the party on the dock. Nevertheless my dad went on the boat and when he looked back he thought he saw that my mom was waving us to come back but it turns out that my mom was waving us to go. Anyway they wouldn’t let us on the boat again so we didn’t get to go to Ellis Island, but that’s OK because we were all pooped! Or like that time in Yosemite when it started to poor down on us and we were trapped in this little awning and then it downed on us that we had to pick-up all the stuff that we left or they’d be socked! And then my mom’s cousin’s tent was leaking and she had to move it and we all got drenched. And that time were my dad took a wrong turn in New Orleans and, well, lets just say it way the worst street in New Orleans in my opinion. (It was Bourbon Street.) There was a bar at every street and we couldn’t find a family-friendly place to eat. Finally we found a Bubba Gump’s! Fun times, fun times. All and all this trip has really changed my life and my idea of the USA! I will look forward to the next not-in-car trip! And will post you then, till’ next time! And I hope you will have some great adventures like I did!
