This is a photo of the restaurant where we ate lunch. It was located just beneath the Rialto Bridge. Good seafood. Afterwards we wandered towards St. Mark's Square, but stopped for a gondola ride. It was a lovely day for a ride, and the city was absolutely packed because it was an Italian national holiday with all the kids out of school. We finally made it to St. Mark's, and it was stunning. We all agreed that the space and the city were world class sites, and that one day was not enough to get to know the city. Some of the group went up the tower, some went in the cathedral, and Grampa Bill sat at a cafe and drank wine to his heart's content.
Island in the background. This was about 30 minutes before we hustled back to the ferry. We almost missed the train both going and returning from Venice. It was a very full day.
