Yes, what you are looking at is baby food with horse meat in it. Saw it on display while waiting in line to check out at the supermarket. They also had baby food with rabbit in it as well. The Italians in line assured me that it is common in Rome to find horsemeat in the butcher shops, and many people eat horse meat.
At about 3 pm we went to an open air market a few blocks from our apartment at Campo di Fiori. The girls have been fascinated with the small cars, trucks and busses that are used in Italy. We asked one of the vegetable vendors if we could sit the girls in their truck and take a photo. They were happy to oblige. It's actually like a little motorcycle, with handlebars inside. We gave the owner a small lapel pin with an American and Italian flag together on it (we brought a few as goodwill gifts) and they said to return the next day and that they would give the girls a ride. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning.
Grampa, the girls and Nathan stayed in the apartment while the rest of the party went to Piazza Navona for a walk. The Piazza is very pretty, with some serious fountains within the oblong shaped area. The place is lined with restaurants and tourist shops, and, just like the piazza in Florence, there were dozens of Bangladeshi men selling laser pointers and florescent toys which they shoot into the air, and which float down like a helicopter. Many artists were selling their paintings, which were of much higher quality than in Florence, and there were hundreds of foreign high school students walking around in groups.
As you can see by Lucia's broad smile, she wants one of these mini trucks to take back home, or to simply ride around Rome in. We have been very fortunate on this trip, having great experiences and avoiding many pitfalls. God is watching over our group as we continue to learn and experience many new things.
Horse meat? What?! You should try it. Hey...when in Rome...
ReplyDeleteIt looks chilly over there we are packing our warm gear! Looks like you guys are having a great time, can't wait to see you all. If we make it to Chicago we will be there!!! :) And I'm pretty sure the mini car will fit in your suitcase.

America was built on a diet of horse and dog meat. Just read the stories of Lewis and Clark. Of course, these days we have more choices. Are you sure it wasn't horse food with babies in it? =)
