Barton Springs Pool, Austin, Texas

Ready

Jump

Splash!

The DeLaTorres have welcomed us into their home with open arms, giving us a very nice break from hotels and restaurant food.  We are 8 children and 3 adults in the house, so meal time turns into a wonderful production and a great time to spend time together.  After spending the morning doing chores and getting all our ducks in a row it was time for a field trip.

At 7 a.m. if you go outside it is warm, but not yet incredibly hot.  By 10 a.m. the air and the sun hits you with force, as if something physical were smooshing you down to the ground.  The weather service said it was 106 degrees today, and when we drove away to the swimming hole we were very thankful for air conditioned cars!

The Barton Springs Pool is a naturally fed spring, and the water is clear and cool.  It is quite large, and has a diving board in the middle of it.  There are small fish and salamanders in it, and there are also many aquatic plants. (For Tia Susy, Ana said she had to swim in water that was disgusting).  The many plants and algae bottom in the shallows did not prevent us from spending the better part of the afternoon in the water.  It was a delicious feeling to jump from 106 degree air into 60 degree fresh water.  If you felt a chill you got out, sat on the grass and dried off in about 4 minutes.

The park is right in the middle of Austin.

After a taco night dinner we went to the community swimming pool, swimming until 9 pm.

Tomorrow we are driving about an hour to another swimming hole called Blue Hole in Wimberly, Texas.  It should have a rope swing.  Weather report:  107 degrees.  Possible rain on Th/F, temp dipping into the low 90's.
