The grounds were very pretty. It felt like you were in 1780.

| Ana photobombing Lucia in the giftstore as Lucia models a three cornered hat. Lucia and Julia ended up purchasing toy rifles. Now we have two toy rifles and a pogo stick to drive back to CA. |

| Two workers in period dress posing with us in front of the Mt. Vernon mansion. The grounds and houses were very well maintained. |

The blacksmith shop was operational with two blacksmiths making some latches. They make their own iron and steel implements and specialized carpenters use the objects to maintain the grounds. Apparently working as a blacksmith is still a living art and a good job. This particular blacksmith started at 15 and has worked for 15 years as a blacksmith.

Mt. Vernon was a great place to visit. The grounds are well maintained and the staff and volunteers were wonderful. They have a working farm, working blacksmith forge and the grounds sit on some beautiful land along the Potomac River. They offer a boat ride as well on a large boat for a reasonable fee. The museum they have on the grounds has displays that are professionally presented, including several wonderful rooms for children. We even saw his famous dentures on display (no pictures allowed) It really gave us a new appreciation of our first president.
